Secure Defense Consulting Incorporated Announces New Consulting Service for Classified Information Systems (IS)

Pub. 5.22.08 by vendor

Secure Defense Consulting Incorporated, a provider of security consulting services to companies working on classified government contracts, recently expanded its array of consulting services. To address the difficulties government contractors commonly experience in securing their classified information systems (IS), SDC has brought on board consultants with in-depth expertise in IS security regulations compliance. SDC states that it will deliver its new array of consulting services to clients nationwide, both remotely and via on-site service.

Secure Defense Consulting Incorporated announced the expansion of its security consulting services to address the difficulties government contractors working on classified contracts commonly experience in attempting to secure their classified information systems (IS).

The federal government's security requirements for certifying, accrediting, and operating IS such as computer networks that process classified information are often difficult for government contractors to understand and implement. In recent years government contractors operating IS at their cleared facilities have frequently been cited by government inspectors for failing to comply with requirements of chapter 8 of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).

Information technology consulting firms typically spend most of their time working with unclassified systems. And the few security consultants available who are experienced with classified information security usually lack in-depth working knowledge of information systems' complexities, leaving an important area of national security weak. Secure Defense Consulting Incorporated stated it is expanding its NISPOM compliance services to address information systems' security in-depth.

Michael Bush, its president and principal consultant, noted that, "A good deal of the United States' classified information is stored and processed on computer networks—known as "information systems" in the industry—at companies, not just government facilities. In government inspections of these companies' security programs, numerous discrepancies are often found in the companies' procedures for protecting the classified information on these systems. This can jeopardize the security of classified information, and lead these companies to receive lower ratings of their security programs. This is one of the most difficult problems for companies to understand and fix on their own. Thus, we felt it important to address this particular issue."
