AirTight Launches Wireless Security SaaS Offering

SpectraGuard Online Provides Flexible, End-to-End Wireless Vulnerability Management with No Capital Outlay

4.8.08 by vendor

AirTight Networks, a provider of wireless vulnerability management, announces the launch of SpectraGuard® Online, a wireless vulnerability management solution offered as software-as-a-service (SaaS). With this launch, AirTight gives customers visibility into their wireless security posture and a choice in how they manage it--using either a complete on-site wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) or a modular hosted service.

The unique AirTight wireless security service is offered as three plug-and-play modules--Vulnerability Assessment, Regulatory Compliance and Vulnerability Remediation--allowing customers to choose what they need and add additional capabilities as their needs expand or their business grows. SpectraGuard Online is available as a pay-as-you-go subscription model.

SpectraGuard is installed as pre-configured wireless sensors; responds to a few wireless setup questions; and, within 72 hours, begins to receive wireless vulnerability reports by email. Customer data is hosted in a SAS-70 certified co-location facility designed for security and high availability.

"As wireless becomes a business utility, the question is not how to keep wireless out but how to reap its benefits and efficiencies while managing wireless vulnerabilities," said David King, chairman and CEO of AirTight. "With this new initiative, Airtight is expanding on its leadership position in the WIPS market to provide robust wireless vulnerability management to a broader market which has been ignored or underserved."

AirTight recognized that the WLAN market needed more than a one-size-fits-all approach to security. The company noted that a full WIPS solution was too complex for the needs of some customers who were looking to either meet compliance regulations such as PCI DSS for example or understand their wireless risks in a cost effective way.

"I can’t stress enough how important network and wireless security are--but, unfortunately, IT capital budgets can feel a degree of strain when the required solution is implemented," said Craig Mathias, a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group (Ashland, MA). "I’m really excited about the potential of SpectraGuard Online, which offers proven wireless security capabilities in an amazingly cost-effective package."

A recent report from Gartner stated, "Security as a service can be procured through operating budgets rather than capital expenditure which lowers switching costs, involves little or no operating costs, provides functionality improvements without the need to upgrade infrastructure and this lowers the total cost to deliver security controls or functions."

"As a public company, we went through our first SOX compliance audit last year which was really difficult and time consuming because we had to demonstrate that all our access points were configured the way we said they were," said Wayne Warthen, CTO of LoopNet. "We had to have a couple of technicians working for several days to document this. With SpectraGuard Online, you glance at the reports, you know if you have an issue to deal with, you print them, file them and you move on knowing you can validate your vulnerability status to any auditor."

"We are a no Wi-Fi shop but have been discussing allowing guest Wi-Fi access and were uncertain how to control and secure it. With SpectraGuard Online I now have a control mechanism," said Jim DeNardi, director of IT, Andreini & Company

How SpectraGuard Online Works

Architected using a multi-tenant architecture, plug and play sensors, remote upgrade capabilities, and web user-interface, SpectraGuard Online is ready to meet the need for low administration, high value security services. The service is offered in three discrete modules which can be purchased separately or together depending on the customers needs.

  • Generate wireless compliance reports for regulations such as HIPAA, PCI, SOX, GLBA, DOD Directive 8100.2 etc with one click
  • Add compliance reports for other standards by defining custom reports
  • Schedule reports on demand for periodic delivery

Wireless Vulnerability Remediation provides:

  • 24/7 notification of wireless vulnerabilities as they occur
