But how much the implementation of data-tagging software will cost companies in the long run is still up for debate, even as a handful of volunteers continue to test it (see article here ).

It’s Us, Stupid!

Filed under "this-is-almost-not-even-news", an article from eWeek states that according to PGP Director of Product Management John Dasher, the employment of human beings that's the most common cause of data breaches.  I can almost hear the readers saying "duh!"  What confused me though is that Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, told eWEEK that at least 80 percent of data breaches involve the human factor, a finding that's remained steady in the seven or so studies the institute has done over the past years.  I hate to disagree with Larry, but in my not so humble opinion, the figure should be 100 percent.

“Extrusion Protection” Field Narrows Further

When the music stops, will Vontu have a seat? It looks like our analysis was spot on. This week, Trend Micro announced that they are buying data protection provider Provilla. This puts further pressure on Symantec to pick up Vontu, and I still suspect it drives the price even higher. Of course, the flipside to this is that by cuddling up to SYMC, Vontu limits its chances and Big Yellow can just wait them out and grind them down. But then again, Symantec has problems of its own to contend with.

It looks like InformationWeek is reporting on Symantec acquiring Vontu, something we wrote about some time ago. If anyone close to this deal can offer some pricing, I would be curious to see if my prediction regarding a valuation hike in the wake of the Tablus/RSA deal was realized.
