ForeScout Adds Fuel to the NAC Fire With $8M Round

No Comments 03 July 2008

In yet another show of NAC market support and a significant vote of confidence, Cupertino, CA based ForeScout Technologies, has raised $8 million from previous investors Accel Partners , Amadeus Capital Partners , Meritech Capital Partners and Pitango Ventures. Worth noting is that ForeScout's previous round (number 4 for those of keeping track) was for $11.25 million, and also included only returning investors. Coupled with the investment made in Bradford Networks (that we covered here ) this is a strong indicator of not only interest, but also confidence in the NAC space. Of course, our position is that it is still a feature looking for a suitable home, a sentiment that appears to be shared by the VC community since the IPO market is toast right now.

Updata Partners tops off Bradford Network's warchest with another $8 million, based upon past performance with their last infusion from Windspeed Ventures of $2.8 million back in August of 2006. Windspeed joined in this round as well, which is interesting considering the way the NAC market has been going lately (many seem to still be sweating the MSFT play).

According to the official press release , Bradford intends to use the funds to expand outside of their .edu beachead and explore commerical markets domestically and in Europe.

Agiliance Proves There’s Gold In The Hills of GRC

No Comments 02 July 2008

Grab your shovels and your mules, GRC still has plenty of life in it. San Jose, CA based Agiliance has shown that the GRC space is alive and kicking (at least from the VC perspective) by raising a $10 million round of funding led by Castile Ventures , with participation from Intel Capital , Walden International and Red Rock Ventures . Despite all the noise regarding the downturn in VC activity (no IPO's, etc.) it seems that money is still pouring into the security space as we have reported numerous times since the start of the year. With a dearth of IPO's in the future, it looks like more and more companies (the Big Boys) are turning to acquisition as a strategy of "off-balance sheet R&D".

WhiteHat Security Gets $7M 4th Round

No Comments 26 June 2008

WhiteHat Security, no doubt bouyed by the fervor over PCI 6.6 requirement, has raised a fourth round of funding. This $7 million round,  led by Horizon Ventures, adds to the $6.2 million raised previously, and joined by existing backers Altos Ventures, Garage Technology Ventures and Startup Capital Ventures. This whole mess around 6.6 reminds of how the major endpoint protection vendors flogged the PCI horse a couple of years ago. IMHO, it's starting to look like a lobbying racket.
